Choose Allah’s protection
“The parable of those who choose protectors other than Allah is that of the spider that builds itself a dwelling. But truly, the flimsiest of dwellings is that of the spider.”
[Holy Qur’an, 29:41]
Prayer restrains injustice
“Prayer restrains mankind from shameful and unjust deeds, and remembrance of Allah is the greatest of all deeds.”
[Holy Qur’an, 29:45]
A cure for every disease
The Prophet Muhammad (salallahu alaihi wasallam) said, “There is no disease that Allah created, except that He also created its cure.”
[Sahih Bukhari, Volume 7, Hadith 582]
Avoid abuse
A person once asked the Prophet Muhammad (salallahu alaihi wasallam) to offer some advice. The Prophet said, “Do not abuse anyone. And if someone abuses and shames you for something that he finds in you, then do not shame him for something that you find in him.”
[Sunan of Abu Dawood, Hadith 1889]
Good manners
The Prophet Muhammad (salallahu alaihi wasallam) said, “A believer may achieve the status of one who regularly fasts (for religious reasons) during the day and spends the night in prayer, through good manners.”
[Sahih Bukhari, Volume 1, Hadith 38]
Relieved or relieving?
A funeral procession once passed by the Prophet Muhammad (salallahu alaihi wasallam) and he said, “Relieved or relieving?” The people asked, “What is relieved and relieving?” He said, “A believer is relieved by death from the troubles and hardships of the world, and leaves for the Mercy of Allah, while the death of a wicked person relieves the people, the land, the trees and the animals from him.”
[Sahih Bukhari, Volume 8, Hadith 519]
Seek Allah’s pardon
The Prophet Muhammad (salallahu alaihi wasallam) said, “Blessed is he who finds many requests for Allah’s pardon in his record.”
[Al-Tirmidhi, Hadith 750]
The Prophet Muhammad (salallahu alaihi wasallam) recited, “My servants who have transgressed against their souls through sin should not despair of Allah’s Mercy, for Allah pardons all sins.”
[Holy Qur’an, 39:53]
The Prophet (salallahu alaihi wasallam) also quoted the devil as saying to Allah, ” I shall continue to lead Thy servants astray as long as their spirits are in their bodies.” Allah replied, “And I shall continue to pardon them as long as they ask My forgiveness.”
[Al-Tirmidhi, Hadith 742]
Speak for justice
“Show forgiveness, speak for justice and avoid the ignorant.”
[Holy Qur’an, 7:199]
A word of justice
The Prophet Muhammad (salallahu alaihi wasallam) said, “The best Jihad is to speak a word of justice to an oppressive ruler.”
[Sunan of Abu Dawood, Hadith 2040]
Good behaviour
The Prophet Muhammad (salallahu alaihi wasallam) said, “Nothing is weightier in the scales of a believer on the Day of Judgement than his good behaviour. Allah treats with displeasure a person who is given to loose and vulgar talks.”
[Al-Tirmidhi, Hadith 215]
A clean heart
The Prophet Muhammad (salallahu alaihi wasallam) said, “No companion of mine should tell me anything bad about another person. For when I meet you, I would like my heart to be clean (unbiased).”
[Riyadh-us-Salaheen, Hadith 1539]
Remembering Allah
The Prophet Muhammad (salallahu alaihi wasallam) narrated: “Allah says, ‘I am to my servant as he expects of Me, I am with him when he remembers Me. If he remembers Me in his heart, I remember him to Myself, and if he remembers me in an assembly I mention him in an assembly better than his…and if he comes to me walking…I rush to him with great speed.”
[Fiqh-us-Sunnah, Volume 4, Number 99]
Avoid what is doubtful
The Prophet Muhammad (salallahu alaihi wasallam) said, “That which is lawful is clear, and that which is unlawful is also quite clear. Between these two is that which is ambiguous, which most people do not know. One who avoids the doubtful safeguards his faith and his honour.”
[Riyadh-us-Salaheen, Hadith 588]
